Cocker Spaniel — temperament, care and breeding in Dog Kennel Simulator
The American branch of the cocker family — a gentle, happy flushing gun dog that split from its English cousin in the 20th century.
About the breed
History
The Cocker Spaniel on this page is the American breed. In the United States it is called the Cocker Spaniel; elsewhere it is known as the American Cocker Spaniel.
It split from the English Cocker Spaniel during the 20th century, because the breed standards in the US and the UK differed. The American Kennel Club lists it in the Sporting Group.
It was bred as a flushing gun dog. The word “cocker” is commonly linked to hunting woodcock in England, and “spaniel” is thought to come from the breed type’s origins in Spain.
Temperament
The AKC describes the Cocker Spaniel as gentle, smart and happy. Its barking level is medium.
Care
Males stand 37–39 cm and weigh 11–14 kg; females stand 34–37 cm and weigh 9–11 kg.
Shedding is occasional. The life span is given as 10–14 years.
